Buyer Beware: the newest computer wallpaper on eBay has been cracked.
In a video posted on Monday, the seller posted a screenshot of the wallpaper and explained that the hack was a result of the device’s vulnerability to the “WannaCry” ransomware, which has infected more than 1.5 million computers worldwide.
The seller said the wallpaper, which is called Computer Love, has been in use on a variety of computers for several years and is an “almost exact duplicate” of the popular Mac OS X wallpaper.
“It was the last wallpaper I uploaded before my computer was stolen,” the seller wrote.
“After seeing the wallpaper I was so shocked I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.”
The buyer said the device has been compromised twice in the past three days, and that a hacker took the device apart to look for vulnerabilities in the software and hardware.
While the seller said he has been working with security experts to secure the device, he said he’s still concerned about the safety of his fellow buyers and sellers.
He added that he has received numerous calls from buyers and other sellers who say they’ve had to close their accounts because of the hack.
A spokesperson for Apple declined to comment.
